The words: ‘He is not here, but has risen’ are a vital aspect of the gospel and bring great encouragement and peace to every Christian. The Christian message is that death is not the end. 1 Corinthians 15 v 3-4 affirms what we believe: ‘For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,’. In fact Paul went on to say: ‘and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain’ v14.
However Paul goes on to explain to the believers at Corinth that: ‘in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep’v20. This is the message that One Mission Society Workers and our ministry partners takes to the Nations including Ireland with confidence. The fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead assures every believer that the foundation of our faith is firm, the forgiveness of our sins has been accomplished and our future is secure. We can truly sing: ‘I serve a risen Saviour, He’s in the World today. I know that He is living whatever man may say; I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer and just the time I need Him, He’s always near’ (Alfred Huckley). At Easter dear Christian friend we celebrate a tremendous victory.
