In God I Trust - Part 6

| 26 May 2020
  1. Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up;
    Fighting all day he oppresses me.
  2. My enemies would hound me all day,
    for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.
  3. Whenever I am afraid,
    I will trust in You.
  4. In God (I will praise His word),
    In God I have put my trust;
    I will not fear.
    What can flesh do to me?
  5. All day they twist my words;
    all their thoughts are against me for evil.
  6. They gather together,

…I put my trust in you v3
…in God I trust v4
In God I trust… v11

David raises the subject of trust in God in many of his Psalms. In fact trust is a key feature of the Psalms. In Psalm 71v3 the Psalmist (Which many believe was written by David) states:

“For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth”.

In Psalm 20 verse 7 David declares where his trust is placed when he writes:

Thank God for the Promise of Springtime

Like many folk in Northern Ireland I find myself following the government’s social isolation policy due to the Covid-19 pandemic which basically involves staying at and working from home 24/7. Like many others I really enjoy taking my ‘one form of exercise a day’ aspect of the regulation which allows you to leave your home for a brief period each day. In my case this involves a walk in my local area.

In God I Trust - Part 1

| 29 March 2020
  1. Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me;
  2. my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly.
  3. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
  4. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.

Psalm 46: Be Still And Know That I Am God

| 21 March 2020
  1. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
  2. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
  3. Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

A Waste of Time

| 27 May 2019

A waste of time?  Two and a half hours we sat - stationary on the M62 at junction 10. I watched as a large incident vehicle, 2 fire engines, 3 ambulances and what I considered to be a disproportionately large number of marked and unmarked police vehicles noisily sped past us on the hard-shoulder. It didn’t take a member of MENSA to work-out that there had been an accident up ahead and the eastbound M62 had become no more than a four lane car park.  The longer I sat, the more irritated I became. “Why would God allow this to happen on today of all days?” I asked myself.

Wakey-Wakey…

| 13 May 2019

The ‘call to prayer’ resonated from the local mosque. It was 6.12pm on my watch as I watched with interest as the locals, without question, query or comment, unravelled their prayer-mats and, looking eastward, prostrated themselves. I was impressed by their devotion. Then the Spirit of God quietly whispered to me: Whilst the sailors called upon their gods, Jonah slept! The thought came like an arrow piercing my heart. The storm raged, it should have been Jonah praying, calling upon his God, but the man of God was asleep.
